Louisville Outlasts UConn In Double-Overtime

Jan 29, 2011 3:50 PM

No. 19 Louisville outlasted No. 5 Connecticut in double-overtime at Gampel Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.

Peyton Siva scored 19 points, including two driving layups in the second overtime of the 79-78 win.

The Cardinals came back from a nine-point second-half deficit to snap a six-game winning streak by the Huskies.

Kemba Walker, who scored 20 points, missed a jumper at the end of regulation and a long three-pointer at the end of the second overtime that would have given the Huskies the win.

Providence Shocks No. 15 Louisville

Jan 22, 2011 8:52 PM

Marshon Brooks scored 27 points and Gerard Coleman had a career-high 19 to lead Providence to a shocking 72-67 victory over No. 15 Louisville on Saturday.

It was the first conference victory for the Friars in 51 weeks, and their first win over former coach Rick Pitino.

Pitino has faced Providence seven times since he led the school to the 1987 Final Four, then left to coach the New York Knicks. He never faced the Friars with Kentucky.

"I don't think anybody else is coming in."

Kuric's Layup Saves No. 18 Louisville Against Marquette

Jan 15, 2011 7:50 PM

Kyle Kuric's layup with four seconds left off a heady assist from Preston Knowles capped a furious rally by No. 18 Louisville, who stunned the Marquette, 71-70.

"They were all concentrating on me, and I made them pay for it," Knowles said of the play.

Marquette dominated the game for long stretches but came undone over the final 5:44, making just two field goals during that span.

"That's one of the top-five comebacks," said Louisville coach Rick Pitino. "They outplayed us for the first 34 minutes. I'm really proud of these guys. I'm shaking. It happened so fast."

Pitino Wants Louisville To Get Tougher

Jan 15, 2011 12:02 PM

Rick Pitino knows Louisville is undersized, but he wants them to get tougher.

"On defense you've got to hit people," Pitino said. "We don't have frontcourt people that enjoy contact with the exception of (sophomore forward) Stephan Van Treese."

No. 18 Louisville will need toughness to compete in the Big East. Pitino mainly wants aggression to help the team's rebounding.

"They're not the most talented group I've coached," he said. "They are what they are. They have a great attitude, a great group of guys. They're good solid ballplayers who give you everything they have, there's just no great rebounders on this team."
